Day 26: Great Bend to McPherson, KS (Kansas ... the longest state in the union?)

Well, not every day is a home run.

Today we rode 64 miles due east into a stiff headwind/sometimes when we were lucky crosswind through ... Kansas. Yep, we're still here. Kansas.

Other than putting my head down and pedaling, my only interesting stop was to check out one of those oil wells that was by the side of the road. The kind where the horse headed shaped lever bobs up and down endlessly. And that's all there was to it.

The territory is looking more and more "back East". Smaller farms. More hardwood trees. More diverse agriculture. The ground is rolling. There is the smell of hay as we pass freshly harvested wheat fields, and I'm seeing alfalfa and other legumes.

Got in pretty early and cleaned my bike. I noticed what looks like a small horizontal crack in the top tube ... bad news on a carbon frame. Hopefully it will be OK, but I documented it for the warranty, sent photos back to Redmond Cycle where Brian is taking care of my bike and am holding my breath. That could be expensive to replace the frame. No idea how the crack got there - I hope it's just a scratch in the paint.

We watched bad movies this afternoon and goofed by the pool. That was a nice change from rushing around worrying about laundry or other tasks that pile up on long ride days.

Another short day tomorrow.
